Students in Maple Leaf Foreign Nationals’ Schools have daily Mandarin classes as part of the school’s philosophy of blending the Best of the East and the West.

Students who are just beginning to learn Mandarin take a CSL (Chinese-as-a-Second-Language) class, while students more familiar with Mandarin take ‘Academic Mandarin’. These courses are aligned with the Maple Leaf CSL Curriculum and scaffolds language skills over the various school years. The Mandarin program at the FNS campuses also have a component of learning about Chinese Culture, Traditions and Society.

At the end of each school year, students take the YCT or HSK Mandarin exams which are internationally-recognized Chinese language proficiency exams. Students in Maple Leaf Foreign Nationals Schools are highly successful on these exams. This year, we had:

12 students take the HSK1

15 students take the HSK2

16 students take the HSK3

2 students take the HSK4

3 students take the HSK5
