Program Introduction

The idea of core competencies and the educated citizen have become a hot topic in the world of Education. Core competencies are personal skills that allow students to be successful learners and problem solvers in the 21st century.

To prepare students for this world trend, our education is divided into three aspects: cultural foundation, self-development and social participation. These three aspects are realized by six skills of accomplishment: cultural background, scientific spirit, learning, healthy life, responsibility, practice and innovation. To promote the international multicultural education, MLFNS-D invested 2 years to develop a bilingual program which in now beginning to recruit its first student cohort.

Program Purpose

To educate students with Chinese and English instruction to help them become well-rounded citizens with a better understanding of multiple cultures.

Bilingual Teaching Mode

Bilingual program designed for a small class size with up to 20 students. Student-centered learning environment makes teaching happen everywhere in the real world.

Bilingual program has diversified teaching methods. We help students find areas of interest through inquiry, cooperative, and interdisciplinary learning.

Inquiring learning

We encourage students to use scientific methods to explore and research problems according to their own conjecture or hypothesis, and find problems in the process of inquiry, put forward problems, and test solutions.  In this process, students can integrate knowledge from various disciplines. This not only helps students to build the connection between the knowledge they have learned, but also helps to cultivate students’ scientific spirit of inquiry and innovative practice ability.

Cooperative learning

We provide students with full cooperative learning opportunities and organize students to complete learning tasks together in the form of group cooperation, so as to stimulate their learning initiative and cultivate cooperative spirit, creative spirit, innovative and critical thinking.

Experiential learning

Experiential learning is simply “learning by doing”. We attach great importance to experiential learning. Students will engage in real world application of learning in areas such as outdoor outward-bound training, behavioral learning, international cultural festivals, Model United Nations, public speaking and other activities, so that students can master knowledge and develop the corresponding ability through experience.

Interdisciplinary learning

Students will engage in standard disciplinary instruction and Project Based Interdisciplinary Learning, where students engage in big learning activities that cover several academic disciplines working simultaneously.  Interdisciplinary learning allows students to demonstrate understanding of concepts through the application of their learning in real world scenarios.

Bilingual Program Assessment

For assessment of academic progress, MLFNS-D Bilingual program has related subject area tests, Cognia professional assessment, Maple Leaf English Language Test (MELT), and Maple Leaf English & Mandarin Band assessments. Additionally, all students receive grade specific English reading and math proficiency assessments.Assessment styles include pre-assessment, formative assessment such as individual learning process and homework collection (feedback & practice), and summative assessment, such as periodic demonstration of learning mastery.

In terms of the process evaluation of students’ holistic development of core competencies, we adopt a set of diversified evaluation indexes and systems, which include the evaluation of a students’ emotional intelligence, personality, psychology and other character development, as well as the evaluation of comprehensive qualities such as innovation, leadership, and practical ability.
